CASA in Action to Endorse a 2020 Democratic Presidential Candidate for the First Time in History
MD, PA, VA - CASA in Action, the region’s largest pro-immigrant electoral organization, is pleased to announce it will endorse a Democratic Presidential candidate for the first time since it began in 2010.
“This is such a critical moment for our more than 100,000 Latino and Immigrant members,” said CASA in Action President Gustavo Torres. “We could not stay out of this very important race in which decisions are being made that directly impact us. We are seeking to elect Democrats who are committed to fighting for us and our communities.”
CASA in Action has mobilized thousands of Latinos and other voters of color to the polls through targeted data-driven electoral programs throughout Maryland, Northern Virginia, and South Central Pennsylvania. For the last midterm elections, CASA in Action conducted their largest electoral program to date, hiring over 200 staff, branching staging offices and simultaneous programming in 8 counties throughout 3 states. More than 480,000 doors were knocked in key districts just since 2016.
“From resolving the crisis facing TPS, DED, and DACA holders, to making sure families have great jobs and healthcare, to solving the crisis facing Puerto Rico. Our members are going to support and turn out the vote for a transformative leader,” said Delia Escobar, member of CASA in Action’s Board of Directors.
CASA in Action’s Board approved interviewing candidates who were polling at 1% or greater following Labor Day. The final candidates are: Joe Biden, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg, Julian Castro, Kamala Harris, Beto O’Rourke, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Andrew Yang.
CASA in Action members has a set of national priorities by which they will judge the candidates including healthcare, climate change, immigration reform, minimum wage increase support, a plan to rebuild Puerto Rico, and education reform, among others. The Board will finalize a decision immediately after the critical November 5 elections this year where progressives and voters of color will win control of the Virginia General Assembly.
