WASHINGTON (TUESDAY, MAY 15, 2018) – CASA, the largest immigrant rights organizations in the Mid-Atlantic region, and its sister organization CASA in Action will bestow their highest honor the 2018 Justice Award to Tom Steyer, President and Founder of NextGen America, during its 6th Annual Justice Awards Night on June 6, 2018. Held at the City Club of Washington in D.C., the awards ceremony features Virginia Governor Ralph Northam as keynote speaker.

Alongside NextGen America, CASA in Action has spearheaded ground and media campaigns to elect progressive candidates in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

“It is a true honor to be recognized by CASA and CASA in Action at this year's Justice Awards,” said NextGen America President Tom Steyer. “CASA in Action has worked tirelessly to build an equitable and just world for working people and immigrant communities in these critical times, and continue to defend our communities from an onslaught of injustice and viciousness. We need organizations like CASA and CASA in Action to continue their indispensable advocacy for the rights of immigrants and working class people.”

“With leaders like Tom Steyer in our corner, electoral powerhouses like CASA in Action can hamper Trump’s efforts to squash working and immigrant families,” said CASA in Action President Gustavo Torres. “Last year, we secured unilateral victories in Virginia as all of the progressive candidates we endorsed, like Ralph Northam, got elected. With Steyer’s help we fueled efforts like these.”
In recognition of their hard work and sacrifices in the fight for immigration reform, CASA's DREAMers will be honored at the Justice Awards. Newly elected Virginia Delegates Elizabeth Guzman, Hala Ayala, Jennifer Carroll Foy, Danica Roem, Kathy Tran, and Danica Roem will also be honored.

Over 300 activists, nonprofit leaders, elected officials, and business leaders from across the region will attend the Justice Awards.

‚ÄčCASA in Action, a 501(c)(4) organization, is the foremost Latino and immigrant organization in the Mid-Atlantic region and a national leader in supporting immigrant families and ensuring that all individuals have the core supports necessary for full participation in society. CASA in Action and CASA in Action PAC endorse candidates that advance its membership’s priorities and facilitates greater engagement of Latinos and voters of color in elections. With nearly 100,000 members, CASA in Action is an individual membership organization of low-income immigrants.  Donations to CASA in Action are not tax-deductible.
